The Shark Swim Challenge has been set up by Inspired Adventures on behalf of my charity

The Challenge is sort of like a 'wet' kokoda trail, but instead of going to the jungle, I'm trekking across southern Africa to work with sharks!

It consists of three challenges:

  • to raise funds
  • to travel to South Africa and undertake shark conservation work
  • to get fit to undertake and enjoy all the activities on offer during the trip

The trip to South Africa goes from 21st May to 9th June 2010.  A summary of the trip is on the right.

The trip is no luxury: it is 18 rigorous, gruelling days of camping, hiking, snorkelling and diving, and other activities.

Included in the trip is a 'knowledge swap'.  I will give a presentation about Australian shark conservation work, and at the same time learn about the conservation work in South Africa.  I will be able to bring that knowledge back here and apply it in my work, where I manage a small shark conservation program.

We will be working with White Shark Projects identifying individual white sharks, tagging, cage diving to sex individuals and other research activities.

The Shark Swim Challenge southern Africa itinerary:

  • Kruger National Park
  • Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (southern Mozambique)
  • Morrongulu (southern Mozambique) - whale sharks
  • Swaziland
  • Zululand
  • Oribi Gorge
